The industry standard has recently risen to 1,500 GB of disk space and 15,000 GB bandwidth, and some companies are even starting to surpass that at a lower price than HostGator offers. In terms of service and features, there are better deals to be found.
Control Panel (4.5/5)
HostGator subscribers are provided with the latest version of cPanel, which allows for the installation of other web site scripts and programs with just the click of a mouse. This control panel is the industry standard and the one with which most people are familiar. There is nothing unique about cPanel, but it offers a certain comfort level for those transferring into HostGator. This company currently only offers Linux web hosting, but will be adding Windows in the near future.

HostGator offers excellent customer support, which has helped them build a client base of over 1 million domains. Over 150 employees provide around the clock support by telephone, e-mail, or live chat. They offer a personal touch not often seen, including the ability to direct inquiries to the owner of the company. His name is Brent Oxley, and he is happy to answer customers personally – a nice touch that is rare. A knowledge base and flash tutorials offer customer assistance, especially with setup of the web site.

HostGator offers exceptional customer service and a quality product, but services and features are not on par with the rest of the industry. Competitors offer much more at the same or lower price point, making HostGator merely average in the overall scope of web hosting services.
