FatCow VS GreenGeeks

FatCow VS GreenGeeks

Green, affordable and stocked full of great features – that’s what both GreenGeeks and FatCow have to offer. Powered by wind or compensating for power consumption by purchasing wind energy credits, both companies are sure to be a hit with the eco-friendly hosting crowd.

With unlimited storage, data transfers, and a large assortment of tools to chose from, FatCow offers its accounts at just $66 a year (about $5.50 a month). Offering the same but with unlimited domains and a variety of unlimited e-mail options as well as free site migration, GreenGeeks comes out on top with their hosting account option available at just $6.95 a month (24 month total purchase for this price).

GreenGeeks also offers reseller hosting for as little as $.39 a month and nice affiliate program designed to pay its clients from $50 to $100 per referral.

Products and Services

With regards to products and services offered by FatCow, they offer domain registration, e-mail services (Microsoft Exchange Mail and Microsoft Exchange Mobile Services), e-commerce services (credit card processing and shopping carts), a large array of scripts and add-ons for your account and some fantastic marketing services. While not offering e-mail services like its competitor, GreenGeeks does offer similar e-commerce features as well as programs to add onto your hosting account.

cPanel, a stable and well-known program, is the control panel of choice for GreenGeeks. The program is categorized neatly for efficient use and sports a “Frequently Accessed Areas” panel to allow quick access. cPanel also allows minor customization by the customer in the form of “lite graphics”, the ability to hide icons and collapse various areas for easier reading. An easy-to-use proprietary control panel is the route that FatCow has taken for its clients. It is designed for those who aren’t as technical – categorization and color-coding allows for customers to be able to see what different options they have available.

Web Hosting Features

Bonus features available at GreenGeeks include PHP Nuke, WordPress, Moodle, PHP 5 support and Python support. With a seemingly unending list of overall features, the stand-out for GreenGeeks is its free site migration. The company will continuously communicate with you during the move, will transfer not only your files but your database and e-mails, assist with changing your nameservers and all within 24-48 hours.

While they may not offer a free site transfer option, FatCow is chock full of extra features. FrontPage extensions, Google custom search and webmaster tools, PayPal shopping cart integration and a website builder are just a few of the features they offer.

Customer Service

When it comes to support, FatCow has a slight edge with its “Moo Crew.” This unique support team has pledged itself to answering all support calls in two minutes or less, adhering to a strict deadline when dealing with support issues and strives to always be courteous and pleasant to all clients. Both companies have support options covering e-mail, knowledge bases, ticket support and live chat.

In comparison, there aren’t too many differences between the two hosting companies. They are close in monthly cost, offer similar overall packages and provide good support options. If you would rather avoid the hassle of transferring your own site on over to a new server setup, choose GreenGeeks. However, if customer service is a priority for your hosting business, then FatCow is the hosting company for you.
