Hostmonster vs. Myhosting.com

When you choose your web hosting company, you don’t want to look at a long list of confusing features to add extras, like a cafeteria lunch tray. You want your host to take care of everything for you.

Myhosting.com is a long-runner in the hosting industry starting back in 1997. Since then they have built a solid hosting company with over 50,000 web customers. They offer affordable shared-server hosting as well as affordable VPS hosting that is suitable to handle most any size business website.

Hostmonster started in 1996 and has since grown into business with over 1.7 million customers. Hostmonster makes it easy for their clients by offering a single hosting plan with all the features you’ll need, at one low price.

So which of these hosting companies is right for you? They both offer a good deal and are both reputable companies. So we take a look at them side-by-side and offer our recommendation below.

Pricing

As for pricing, Hostmonster has created a single plan that is only $5.95 per month.

Myhosting.com offer shared hosting starting at $4.84 for “Basic”, $9.34 for “Premium”, and $18.71 per month for “Professional”. VPS plans start at just $15.76 per month.

Products and Services

Hostmonster doesn’t go for a lot of “frills” that other hosting companies tack onto their plans. But they do offer tempting free features which include a $75 Google Adwords credit, and the use of cPanel control panel software for easy account control. Plus they offer a 99.9% uptime guarantee.

Myhosting serves up a full menu of services and features for their customers, including domain registration and email hosting. In addition, Myhosting provides professional service extras like online marketing and design, managed web applications, and SEO.

Web Hosting Features

All plans within the Myhosting set come with unlimited bandwidth, disk space, and hosted domains. The Premium and Business hosting come with more exchange email accounts, at least 1 dedicated IP, and a choice of Windows or Linux OS. The Business class plan comes with even more resources, including eCommerce tools, photo galleries, and content management.

The Hostmonster web plan is fully loaded. They don’t make you choose between limited plans. Instead, the Hostmonster plan includes unlimited bandwidth, disk space, hosted domains, email accounts, and a free domain registration. You’ll also get scripting and software plugin support, as well as support for multimedia files. And the Hostmonster plan comes with free eCommerce tools built right in.

Customer Service

Both offer 24/7 in-house telephone support, as well as email and online ticket submission. Myhosting also offers international support with dedicated numbers for 8 different countries.

Both also offer online self-help. The Myhosting offers a suitable online help section with a wiki, forums, blog, and FAQ. The Hostmonster help center is much more expansive with articles, wizards, video tutorials, live support chat, and even a user forum.

Recommendations

Ultimately our recommendation comes down to the ease of use and total package. Myhosting does have great plans with lots of extra products and services. But Hosmonster has it all in one plan for less, and provides better online support. Our recommendation goes to Hostmonster.
