Rochen Forms Partnership with Ksplice

UK-based web hosting firm Rochen, just signed on for a business agreement with technology provider Ksplice. This partnership will enable the host to perform “rebootless” updates of its operating system kernel. Customers will no longer have to incur downtime because of updates while Rochen can maintain its edge over rival firms in the competitive web hosting industry.

Specializing in shared, reseller and dedicated server hosting, Rochen announced on Monday, October 26, that it has signed an agreement with Ksplice, an upstart technology company that provides a new product known as Uptrack, a tool that offers the ability to keep server platforms up to date without needing to restart them. Uptrack is a very worthwhile technology as it virtually eliminates the need to manually perform kernel updates or reboot the server at all. This means the host can deploy updates much faster without forcing any downtime upon their customers. So when an OS vendor such as Red Hat or SUSE releases updates for their Linux distribution, those enhancements can then be applied almost immediately.

Chris Adams, Rochen CEO, explained how utilizing Kplice’s Uptrack technology across its network of servers will enable security updates of the Linux kernel to be deployed faster than ever before, stressing that customers no longer have to suffer from service interruptions or downtime because of this particular scheduled maintenance task. According to the initial announcement, Uptrack will be used on all of Rochen’s platforms, including its shared, reseller and managed virtual private servers. Adams stressed that customers will not incur any additional charges for these automated OS updates.

Waseem Daher, COO for Ksplice Inc., says that by protecting its servers with Uptrack, Rochen’s customers will receive the essential features and security benefits of the latest updates while continuously enjoying their service without interruption. Daher remarked that Rochen is constantly looking for ways to stay ahead of the competition and deploying Uptrack is just one example of its innovative approach.
